Guru Trinath Maharana, a dynamic personality, a versatile dancer, an ardent lover of Indian art and culture. He comes from a family of traditional musicians of Odisha and has carved out a place for himself in the Odissi dance form. He rose into eminence by chasing a childhood passion inspired by his father, Shri Dasharathi Maharana, who was his first guru.
A lifetime dedicated dancer towards Odissi dance and music, he has never considered this merely as a hobby or career but - "just the reason to be, a way to touch eternity". He beams, - "to me, to dance is to be happy. I dance with joy to reach that permanent state of bliss".
Guru Trinath Maharana, belongs to 'Gotipua' dance tradition and got trained from Guru Vir Kishore Mohapatra, when he was only 8 years old. He was introduced to folk dance and was trained under Guru Khageshwar Mohapatra at the age of 11 years. He learnt classical Odissi from Guru Pankaj Charan Das when he was only 15 years of age and later got his extensive training in Classical Odissi dance from Padma Vibhushan Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra at the age of 21.
He has performed in countries across the world, viz. Algeria, America, Australia, Austria, Croatia, England, France, Germany, Ghana, Holland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Pakistan, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Africa, Switzerland, Syria, USA etc. in prestigious shows like 8th Festival of Indian Art, England, Opera Genda, France, Yuva Mahotsava, Delhi, Angahar Nrityotsav, Delhi, Spic Macay Samaroha, Jaipur, Festival of Classical Music & Dance, Kerala, Dance & Drama Festival, Singapore, Odissi Nritya Sandhya, Thiruvananthapuram. Apart from these, he was also a noted performer in cultural festivals organized by ICCR, Sangeeta Natak Akademi and represented India abroad.
Guru Trinath Maharana has the ability to nurture young talents and ignite passion in them. He is an epitome of Guru - the teacher. In his own words, "dance is Sadhana and teaching is Dharma". Over the last 5 decades he has been nurturing and guiding young aspirants in the field of Odissi Dance and Music in the capital through his organization Manjari Odissi Nrityalaya, promoting and propagating Odissi and other Indian classical dance forms and music. He has served many prestigious and famous Institutions as like Noopura Institute of Classical Dance & Music, Trivandrum and Nrityagram, Bangalore.
